Frequently asked questions
General
CoachEx is a tennis training app that analyzes your swings and provides personalized coaching guidance while you practice.
CoachEx analyzes the mechanics of your swing and generates coaching feedback tailored to what you are actually doing. Unlike general instruction such as YouTube videos or articles, the guidance is based on your own swings.
CoachEx also allows you to have a conversation with your coach while you practice. You can ask follow-up questions, request additional tips, ask for a different explanation, or ask to see the technique demonstrated in video form. The system can generate custom instructional videos that combine your swings with professional demonstrations.
Using CoachEx is designed to be perfectly natural - just like talking with a personal coach.
Set your phone off to your side so it can see you - ideally with a tripod but that is not required. Put in your earbuds so you can hear your coach and ask questions. Start practicing. This can be on court with a partner, a ball machine, or during solo serve practice.
As you swing, CoachEx provides verbal coaching guidance through your earbuds based on the mechanics of your motion, and you can ask your Coach questions. You can then adjust and continue practicing.
Improvement in tennis comes from repetition with feedback:
Swing → feedback → adjust → swing again
CoachEx helps you repeat that loop faster.
CoachEx automatically identifies and saves individual swing clips, making it easy to review each swing one at a time later with Coach's feedback.
CoachEx analyzes your swing and provides guidance tailored to your technique. Instead of guessing what to change, you receive feedback based on what you are actually doing.
Because you can apply the feedback immediately, CoachEx helps you move more quickly through the improvement cycle:
Swing → feedback → adjust → swing again
How is CoachEx different from other tennis coaching apps?
Many tennis apps focus on video playback, generic tips, or complicated stroke analysis. While these tools can be useful, they leave the player to interpret the results on their own and decide what to change.
CoachEx is designed to provide a more interactive and personalized coaching experience.
Key differences include:
• Personalized feedback based on your swings rather than generic instruction
• The ability to have a conversation with your Coach, asking follow-up questions, requesting more detail, or asking for different explanations
• Custom instructional videos assembled specifically for you that combine your swings with professional demonstrations
• A practice feedback loop that allows you to adjust and try again as often as you like during the same session
• Progress and consistency tracking so you can see how your technique develops over time
• A personal library of tips and coaching advice tailored to your technique
The goal is not just to analyze swings, but to provide practical coaching guidance that helps you improve through repeated practice.
CoachEx is not trying to replace the judgment of experienced human coaches. Instead, it focuses on something technology can do very well: analyzing movement patterns and comparing them to effective technique.
By combining motion analysis with AI-generated coaching guidance, CoachEx can identify areas where your mechanics differ from proven technique and work with you to help you understand what to adjust.
Yes. CoachEx analyzes your individual swings, which means the feedback is based on what you are actually doing rather than a generic model of how a swing should look, or what only the top pros can do.
Players often find that simply being able to review their swings clearly and receive guidance tailored to their motion helps them understand their technique much more quickly.
CoachEx analyzes the mechanics of your swing using motion analysis and computer vision technology. The system looks at key elements of the stroke such as body movement, timing, positioning, and sequencing to identify areas for improvement.
Like any coaching tool, it works best as part of regular practice and experimentation. Many players find it valuable because the feedback is based on their actual swings, not general advice.
CoachEx tracks your swings and practice sessions so you can see how your technique develops over time.
The system can measure trends such as swing quality, improvement in specific skills, and consistency, helping you understand whether the adjustments you are making are leading to better performance.
Yes. CoachEx saves your swings as individual clips, making it easy to review your session afterward. If Coaching was active while you were swinging, you can review that coaching guidance, and compare your swings with professional demonstrations to better understand what to adjust in your next practice. If Coaching wasn't active while you were swinging, you can ask for Coaching while reviewing.
Typical online instruction provides general advice that may or may not apply to your swing. CoachEx analyzes your swing and provides guidance tailored to what you are actually doing.
How is CoachEx different from sending a video to a coach for review?
Video review services can be helpful, but the feedback typically arrives long after the practice session is over, so it is too late for you to adjust in the moment. CoachEx provides guidance while you practice, so you can immediately apply what you learn.
CoachEx uses a credit system for coaching. One credit equals one minute of coaching, and the cost is typically around $0.30 per minute, with discounts available for subscribers and for purchasing credits in larger bundles.
This allows you to practice as much or as little as you like. A typical coaching interaction takes around 10 minutes, which is roughly $3, making it easy to get guidance on a specific skill without committing to a full one-hour lesson.
CoachEx includes several useful features at no cost:
• Record and save swing videos in your Video Library for later playback
• Discuss a Coached swing after a lesson or practice session with your Coach without using more credits
• New users receive 10 complimentary coaching credits so you can try the full AI coaching experience
Yes, although functionality will be limited. Without a network connection you can:
• review your stats and progress
• watch videos stored on your device
• view existing Tip videos that include recorded coaching advice
• record new swings for later analysis
Coaching guidance itself requires a network connection. If you record swings while offline, you can receive coaching later once you reconnect.
No! Most players simply place their phone to the side of the court so the camera can see their full body and swing. A tripod or phone stand can help keep the camera stable, but it is not required.
Once recording starts, CoachEx automatically detects and saves individual swing clips and organizes them so you can review them easily. Coach will tell you if you move out of view.
For best results, position your phone to your side, perpendicular to the direction of ball travel.
Place the phone far enough away to capture your full body and the entire swing. A distance of about 10–15 feet (3–5 meters) is recommended.
Rotate the phone to landscape orientation so the coach can track your movement as you move across the court.
Using the front camera can make it easier to check framing and review feedback when you walk up to the phone.
For the most consistent results, use a tripod and position the camera about 3 feet (1 meter) off the ground.
CoachEx is designed to give you more flexibility in how and when you practice.
Many players use it for short sessions multiple times a week. Because it works with shadow swings, you can practice at home, on the court, or anywhere you have a few minutes — with coaching available whenever you want it.
You might use CoachEx to:
• reinforce something your coach showed you
• get extra reps before or after a match
• focus on a specific part of your game, such as your serve
Whether you have just a few minutes or a full session, CoachEx makes it easy to get meaningful practice in.
The key is: More coached reps → better feedback → faster improvement
